Poetry Please

2009 November 11

The lovely Angie introduced me to this wonderful poem by Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno a few months ago and it has been thudding in my ears ever since. I didn’t have much time today to make my daily art, so in the manner of the BBC Radio 4 programme Poetry Please I decided to record my interpretation of this poem.

Wow, Jess, that was incredibly powerful. Your voice is perfect for that poem. I have tears in my eyes. Just wow.

Thank you so much for sharing this – it’s a powerful poem and even more so when read (very well) aloud.

Just beautiful Jess. I’m sure I will hear your voice on ‘Poetry Please’ one of these days.
I often stomp about, reciting to myself, trying to make ‘The Noble Nature’ sound as wonderful as you made it sound. But I can’t. And I won’t even try with this one.
Don’t suppose we could tempt to you read either of the e.e. cummings poems one of these days? xo

I skimmed through your intro before clicking and as I listened I thought firstly: ‘wow, what an amazing poem’ and secondly: ‘what an gorgeous voice this person has, and oh, how well read’ and then ‘I wonder where Jess gets hold of full audio clips of poems from Poetry Please’ …

About halfway through there was something about the tone that made me recognise it was you.

    That made my day.
